Intentions, Expectations & Conduct

“פנים אל מול פנים פגישה באמצע החיים הגענו אל עצמנו ממקומות כל כך שונים”.

"Face to face, we meet in the midst of life, we reached one another from such different places".
(“Face to Face,” a popular Israeli song, Yehuda Poliker, Yaakov Gilad)

All participants, staff and community partners involved in One2One are expected to review and agree to these guidelines.

INVESTORS IN JEWISH PEOPLEHOOD

By joining One2One, participants commit not only to investing in a new relationship that transcends borders, but to becoming a steward of Jewish peoplehood.

BEING PRESENT

Participants agree to be fully engaged and present during the “mifgashim” – Hebrew for “encounters” – and to follow the program’s guided content. Pay extra attention to details and subtleties and keep in mind that you are participating in a cross-cultural encounter.

PRACTICING “DERECH ERETZ”

Participants are expected to observe this traditional Jewish concept, which emphasizes ethical behavior—acting respectfully is key and keep in mind that something you might do or say in a local context could be interpreted differently across cultures.

BE PREPARED

Participants should plan ahead and be prepared. Charge your device, grab a headset and pick a virtual background, if preferred. The encounters are brief and intended to move swiftly.

BE AN ACTIVE LISTENER

Be an active listener and an astute observer as you engage your peer and learn about the parallel reality of another Jewish society.

RESPECTING DIVERSITY

Participants are encouraged to show a heightened awareness for diversity and to be sensitive as they learn about Jewish peoplehood and the realities of Jewish life “across the sea.”  Set aside your assumptions and enter this encounter with curiosity, respect and an open heart.

CROSSING THE FINISH LINE

Participants in One2One commit to completing the series of five (5) encounters, plus any orientation or post-exchange programming required by the sponsoring school or organization.

A SAFE ENVIRONMENT

The One2One platform is intended to be safe and welcoming atmosphere. Meetings are observable and allow teachers and other adults to monitor. If any participant, or their parent, has any concerns about safety, they should not hesitate to contact the local POC at their school or community organization.

*Note: These conduct guidelines draw, in part, from the Aleinu campaign of the Sacred Spaces organization, and its Protocols for Safeguarding Children and Teens in Online Communications.
